Rest in peace... My dearest friend, legendary Grammy-winning mastering engineer, Tom Coyne

I can't even put it into words… I am deeply saddened… My dearest friend, legendary Grammy-winning mastering engineer, Tom Coyne has passed away today April 13th, 2017… He was the only mastering engineer that I've worked with for all my albums & over 30 songs of recording sessions since 2001, over 16 years, including my worldwide No.1 hit "Say That You Love Me".

言葉にならないほどの悲しみに包まれています、、、。
2001年以降の、私のすべての曲、アルバム、世界中のチャートで１位になった全米デビューソング"Say That You Love Me"を含め、16年以上に渡り、私の30曲以上のレコーディングでマスタリングを手がけてくれた、大切な友達であり、グラミー賞受賞マスタリングエンジニアのトム•コインが今日2017年4月13日に亡くなりました、、、。

He's mastered almost all the top artists in USA including Adele, Taylor Swift, Beyoncé, Pink, Mary J, Maroon 5, etc. He was the best of the best. At the same time, he was always so sweet, sincere, warm, and down to earth.

アデル、テイラー•スイフト、ビヨンセ、マルーン５などなど、全米ヒット曲のほとんどを手がけている、最高峰のエンジニアのトム。それでいて、いつも気さくで限りなくあたたくやさしく、セッションの後はいつもあったかいメールをくれたトム。
"Thank you AK. Seeing you and hearing your beautiful work, made my week !!! BIG XXXOOO Tom"

Tom Coyne @ Sterling Sound. This is his lounge room. So many master pieces of his work.

My most happiest recording sessions were with him…
His studio, Sterling Sound is located in Chelsea, New York City, and every time I went there for my session, he said to me "Come in!" with his big warm smile.
Just seeing him made me so happy, on top of that, right after I walked in his studio, he always made me confident, and I felt "everything will be alright" as soon as he started to play my songs.

I am so fortunate and honored that I've met him and had worked with him with so many my songs…

Sterling Soundというチェルシーにある彼のスタジオに通う時は、いつも最高の時間が約束されていました。レコーディングの最終プロセス、マスタリング。一番楽しみな時間でした。
いつもあったかい笑顔で、"Come in!"って迎えてくれたトム。
トムに会うだけで心は幸せに満ちあふれ、最高の音響システムが揃った彼のスタジオに一歩入り、トムが私の曲をプレイ始めるだけで、すべてがうまくいくという気持ちにさせてもらえたのです。

そんな彼と、たくさんの曲を一緒に創ることができた私はどれほど幸運だったことか、、、。
本当に光栄です。

I said to Tom "I'm so worried, my songs needs serious help", then Tom goes "AK, your vocals and songs are already wonderful, just sit back and relax, they are going to be great!".

”たくさんだめなところがあるから心配してる”と言うと、”大丈夫、こんなに歌も曲もいいんだから、最高の音になるから、リラックスしてて”って。

After finishing recording sessions with legendary Grammy-winning mastering engineer, Tom Coyne. You can see his work on the wall, Adele 21, Beyonce...

As soon as he started mastering, instantly, the sounds changes, they start shining, and songs get sparkle. I can't tell you how often I've witnessed those amazing precious moments.
It was magic…
He treated all my songs with his heart. Sensitive breath, dramatic beats, emotional songs, no matter what kind of songs they are, he all understood with his heart.

トムがマスタリングを始めるとすぐに、一瞬にして音がどんどん変わっていき、光を放ち始め、曲が輝きをまとうという瞬間を何度体験したことでしょうか。
まるで魔法を見ているような感動的な時間でした。
繊細な息づかいにも、大胆なビートにも、エモーショナルなものも、すべてを心で理解して最高の音に仕上げてくれたトム。

Tom always let me sit down at his chair at the end of the session for the final listening. "AK, this is the best spot, sit here!". Then I listened to final completed my new songs… I can't describe how happy I was... All those precious memories are crossing my heart…

マスタリングの最後はいつも、”ここに座って聴いて”って言われ、トムのイスに座って視聴した完成したばかりの自分の曲、、、。
たくさんのあたたかい想い出が胸に込み上げて、、、。

The last time I saw Tom Coyne, he told me "AK, don't ever change"....he was the sweetest...

”またすぐに会おうね”。そう言ったのはたった２ヶ月前、、、。

My dear friends, musician, Orange Pekoe Live in NY @Club Bonafide is on Friday April 21! They moved their base to New York, and this is going to be their first live performance in NY!

大切なお友達であり、素晴らしいミュージシャン、

Kazuma Fujimoto一馬さんのふたり組ユニット、
オレンジペコのニューヨークでのライブがいよいよ来週４月21日（金）

NYに活動の拠点を去年移され本格的に活動スタートされたふたり。
彼らのUSAでの初ライブです。
もちろん私は行きます！

We met in New York, and got alone right way. :)
Not only music, but also we have so much in common, and I'm so happy.

音楽はもちろん、いろいろな形でご一緒する機会が増えて本当に嬉しいです。

We got together at the brand new Williamsburg Hotel, and had a great time.

ライブの準備のお話で盛り上がり。：）

AK's most favorite musician EUMIR DEODATO.

If someone asks me "Who is your favorite musician?" My answer will be "EUMIR DEODATO" with no hesitation, and I will say his album "PRELUDE" and "LOVE ISLAND" are my most favorite albums". In fact, I wrote my very first song in my life inspired by his album, when I was 8 years old, without knowing that one day I will meet Deodato!

もしも誰かに”AKのフェイバリットミュージシャンは？と聞かれると、迷う事なく、エウミール•デオダート、そして彼のアルバム”プレリュード”と、”ラブ•アイランド”がフェイバリットアルバムと答えるでしょう。父が買ってきたのですが、聴いてすぐに大好きになり、言葉にできないほど深くインスピレーションを受け、実は、このアルバムを聴いたことで、生まれて初めて曲を書いたのでした。それは私が８歳の時でした。
その頃は、まさかいつかデオダートに出会う運命が用意されているなんて知らず！

The song I wrote was Bossa Nova, quite similar to his song "Carly and Carole". :)   I was actulally already playing Electone back then and playing songs like "Man and Woman", "The Umbrellas of Cherbourg" since I was 5, so it was quite natural. :)

書いた曲はボサノバ。アルバムに入っているCarly & Caroleとそっくりでした。笑
その頃エレクトーンを習っていて、男と女、シェルブールの雨傘、などなど、おませな曲を弾いていた子供でもありました。笑

I can't forget the vision I saw when I listened to the song, "Spirit Of Summer". The vision I saw was that a boy watching the sunset going down at the shore, leaning his back on the tree. It is middle of the hot summer, all you can hear is ocean waves. His body was just silhouette against sunset, and he is just keep watching sunset… it was quiet, but very emotional.

アルバムに入っている"Spirit Of Summer"を聴いた時、あるビジョンが目に浮かんだことが忘れられません。ひとりの少年が海辺で背中を木にもたれて、ただじっと夕陽が海に沈むのを見つめているシーン。静かな真夏。波の音だけが聞こえる海辺。夕陽に照らされて見えるのは彼の体のシルエットのみ。静けさの中にも、狂おしいほどのエモーションが潜むことを生まれて初めて感じた瞬間でした。

Ever since then, I had been a big fan of Eumir Deodato. And miracle happened...I met him in Japan. I told him how much I love his songs, but he told me it's impossible for me to be a fan of him, because I was too young (well, I was 8 when I listened to his songs), so I sang his entire solo in front of him. He was amazed and believed me finally, and to my surprise, he came to my apartment and played piano for me!

そんなデオダートの大ファンだった私に、奇跡的な出会いが訪れました。
彼が来日した時です。

”あなたの大ファンです”と伝えると、”そんな訳はない、君は若すぎる”と言って信じてくれませんでした。（確かに彼の曲を聴いたのは８歳でしたし。笑）なので、デオダートの目の前で彼の弾いたソロを全部歌ってみました。さすがに驚いた彼は、ようやく信じてくれ、翌日、なんと自宅まで来てくれ、お部屋にあったピアノを弾いてくれたのです！

He told me that "I haven't played piano for someone for a long time. You made me want to play it again." I can't tell you how much I was touched. He told me that "If you need any help, just call me". Since then, we have been a great friends.

”誰かのためにこうしてピアノを弾くことはずっとなかった。君が僕にピアノをもう一度弾きたいと思わせてくれた”。そう言ってくれたデオダート。その言葉にどれほど胸がいっぱいになったか。それ以来大切な友達となりました。同時に、いつかデオダートとセッションしたいという夢が生まれました。

The opportunity came when I produced album "YES". It was a London recording. He came to London from New York, and we did the session together for the first time, it was magical...

そしてその機会は、私が初のセルフプロデュースをすることになったロンドンレコーディングで訪れたのです！”ぜひ一緒にセッションしませんか”と誘ったら、”もちろん！”と、ニューヨークからロンドンまで駆けつけてくれました。彼とのセッションは夢のように素晴らしく、一生忘れられない貴重な時間です。彼とのセッションは私のアルバム"YES"に入っています。

I couldn't stop taking pictures! Not only from NY but so many fan and friends gathered from all over the world to celebrate Danny's 45th Anniversary of DJing! OUTPUT was packed with love & joy! Danny's smiling. :)

あまりにいい瞬間がたくさんで写真を撮り続けた夜。NYはもちろん、世界中からダニーを愛する多くのファン、お友達がお祝いに駆けつけて、会場は満場、熱気ですごい盛り上がり。Love & Joyにあふれ! ダニーも最高の笑顔。

100% 7" 45 SET! It was true rare experience but on top of that Danny played so many groovy special songs non stop, we are all hands in the air with joy!

４５回転のドーナツ盤のみのプレイ、それだけでもかなり貴重な体験でしたが、ダニーが次々にかける最高の選曲でみんな歓喜と共にずっとハンズアップ。

It is simply amazing that Danny has been DJing 45 years, but his devotion, passion and love for music is so amazing , I deeply respect him.

45年DJを続けているだけでもすごいことですが、彼の音楽に対する真摯な姿勢と情熱はやむことなくリスペクトが絶えません。

I was watching Danny from the floor and thinking that how fortunate I am to be so close to him, I can't thank enough to him.

この日もフロアからダニーを見ながら、こんなにすごい人のそばにいられる私は、本当になんて幸運なのだろうと、感激と感謝で胸がいっぱいでした。

I'm sure that Danny will continue his music journey, and keep sharing joy and love with us.

即興で、千里さんの弾かれるピアノにあわせて歌っているうちに、
なんと２曲も完成間近！

音で会話し、感情やメッセージが紡がれ、音楽が生まれる瞬間。
そんなとびきりスペシャルな至福の時間、、、。

いつもひとりで曲を創る私にとって、曲を創る最初からコラボレートということは、実は生まれて初めて。

しかも即興でという！新鮮な歓びの連続でした。

大江千里さんのジャズライブ in NYに行きました！音楽って本当に素晴らしいって心から思った一夜。
子供の頃ジャズで育ったほどジャズが大好きな私ですが、千里さんのオリジナルのジャズナンバーはどれもとても素敵。
時にロマンチックでやさしく、時にパッショネイトで激しく、時にグルービー、時にセンシティブ、さまざまなエモーショナルの織りなすマジカルな音の旅。
ピアノとベースだけのシンプルさも心地よく、心から酔いしれる贅沢な時間でした。
千里さんは毎月最終木曜日の夜にNYのミッドタウンのTomi Jazzでライブをされています。次回は２月２５日です！love, AK

”夢はいつかかなう”というメッセージを込めて書いた曲、”MY DREAM”を、コネチカット州のグリニッジ国際学園の４、５歳の子供達が歌ってくれました。これは、練習風景、リハーサル、卒園式のの発表会の、メイキングビデオです！この曲MY DREAMは、アフリカ、ガーナの北部にある村、ボナイリ (Bognayili) にある、My Dream幼稚園の子供達のために書いた曲で、子供達はボナイリの子供達にプレゼントするためと、一生懸命練習してくれ歌ってくれました。ぜひご覧になってください！love, AK

MY DREAM Song Project Starts!

MY DREAM Song Project Started with Greenwich Kokusai Gakuen Children, Connecticut, USA!
This is our practice time and their first performance on their graduation day. They were so amazing.

The song MY DREAM was born because of this episode.
There is a village called Bognayili, in Northern Ghana, Africa.
My friend Yukari Hara, made the MY DREAM School in Bognayili in August 2012, after spending three months in Bognayili as an intern with a local NGO, to reciprocate what people in the village had done for her. While she was working as a diplomat of Japan in Accra, she traveled to the North over the weekend and to work closely with people in the village as a volunteer, helping them to realize better environments for children at MY DREAM School. Yukari asked me if I could write a theme song for the MY DREAM Preschool. My answer was YES! And I wrote a song called “MY DREAM” with the message of “One day our dreams will come true”. I sent my first singing demo as a Christmas gift to the children in Bognayili in December 2013. The kids loved it and the village leader was so thankful and told me that “Our village needed a message like this”.

At the same time, I thought that it would be wonderful if I could connect the children around the world through this message “One day our dreams will come true”. I’ve started MY DREAM song project, and so far I’ve made versions associated with 3 different countries, NY - USA, Fukushima- Japan, and Ghana – Africa. Currently I’m working on France and Cambodia versions. I hope to continue to connect children around the world and support children’s dreams.

コネチカット州のグリニッジ国際学園の子供達が、AKの新曲、MY DREAM、”夢はいつかかなう”というメッセージをこめた新曲を歌ってくれました！これは練習風景、そして卒園式での初の発表会の模様です。子供達の一生懸命でかわいい歌声に感動の２ヶ月でした。本当にありがとう！山本園長始め、Nancy, あすか先生、ひかり先生、他先生方、多大なご協力本当にありがとうございました！ピアノの伴奏をしてくださった西川ごへいさん、写真を撮ってくださった内河ろみさんありがとう！このMY DREAMソングのいきさつは、、、アフリカ、ガーナの北部にある村、ボナイリ (Bognayili) に、大切なお友達の原ゆかりさんが、現地でNPOのボランティアをされた後、村への恩返しとしてMy Dreamという幼稚園を作られ、そのゆかりさんから、”AKに園のテーマ曲を書いてもらえたら”という嬉しいお誘いがあり、できたのがMY DREAMです。ボナイリの子供達には去年の１２月のクリスマスに、AKバージョンのMY DREAMを初プレゼントしました。子供達はとても喜んでくれ、すぐにサビをマスター！という嬉しい知らせが届きました。同時に、AKの声だけでなくアメリカの子供達の声のMY DREAMをプレゼントしたら、もっと喜んでくれるかも、、、そこに日本の子供達の歌声もあわせたら、、どんなにステキだろう！と思い。これからアフリカと、アメリカ、日本、そして世界の子供達を、MY DREAMの歌、“夢は叶う”というメッセージで繋いでいく予定です！love, AK
